OneWorldStandards is a small, independent consultancy that supports the development and use of social and environmental standards.

Our clients are typically standards schemes, NGOs or development agencies, though we have also carried out projects on behalf of universities, retailers, producers and manufacturers. You can get an idea of our client base from our Clients page, but we also work on a confidential basis when requested.

Our main areas of work are related to standards development, review and revision; policy review and development; conformity assessment; product traceability, claims & labelling; business development; and organizational governance.

We have worked on projects related to agriculture, aquaculture, biodiversity, carbon emissions, fisheries, forest management, protected areas, mining, tourism and water use.

Assignments range from short term, specific tasks – for example, to propose a structure for a new standard or scheme, to review and comment on a draft standard prior to its finalisation, or to research and make recommendations on policy or organisational options – through to longer term reviews, scheme support or project management. Our Projects page summarises a few of the projects we have completed since our establishment in 2006, but we are always happy to discuss new areas of work within our area of expertise.

  • What people say about us

“We have relied on the expertise of OneWorldStandards for more than five years. Not only does OneWorldStandards provide timely, smart, in-depth services that have helped us to build a needed certification program that forwards more responsible mining; it has saved our project real time and money. Matthew’s extensive and direct experience with numerous other global certification programs in other sectors has offered us the opportunity to learn from the lessons of others’ path and avoids reinventing the wheel. We thoroughly enjoy his wit and wisdom and frank sharing of opinion — it makes us, and our program, smarter!” – Aimee Boulanger, Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA)
