Scheme Assessment

The WorldWide Fund for Nature (WWF) is a major supporter of sustainability standards initiatives, and is regularly asked to take part in new initiatives. But how to determine whether a new initiative merits engagement at an early stage?

WWF Australia asked OneWorldStandards to benchmark a new initiative in the mining sector against the ‘best existing’ scheme, using the ISEAL Credibility Principles and WWF’s own Certification Assessment Tool as a framework.

Working to a tight deadline OneWorldStandards was able to carry out a fast, objective assessment, giving WWF the information it needed to define its strategy for engagement. WWF responded by specifying the areas in which it needed to see improvement, if it was to consider engaging more fully in the future. The scheme responded, and is now moving towards full operation with WWF’s support.
